Medical Laboratory Technician

Primary duties are the reception of the patients, performing positive patient identification procedures, verifying test orders in VISTA system, organizing patient workflow based on patient needs, and processing orders correctly independently performing but not limited to the following duties:
--Perform venipuncture on both inpatients and outpatients utilizing age and gender specific skills to the young adult, the adult, and geriatric patient. --Confirm positive patient identification utilizing VISTA/CPRS data for accurate processing in the system. --Make the determination as specimen integrity is unknown beyond the point of acceptance. --Assist physicians, nurses and other hospital staff (which may involve telephone or personal interaction), with regards to lab results, proper collection techniques for blood or urine specimens. --Prepare specimens for shipment to reference labs, which includes complex processing steps (i.e., log out of specimens and log in of results, proper order forms, etc.). --Maintain composure, accuracy and speed despite the presence of various stressors such as other patients in the area. --Obtain laboratory results from the computer system, delivering specimens to other laboratory areas, stocking supplies, eyewash quality control, and temperature monitoring utilizing CheckPoint Temperature System. --Perform laboratory tests such as Immunochemical Fecal Occult Blood tests (iFOBT) and other laboratory tests. Medical Laboratory Technician/ PD# 671-0717-A To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 08/08/2019. Basic Requirement:
Applicants must have technical medical laboratory support work such as performing laboratory tests and examinations (chemical, microbiologic, hematologic and blood banking) and preparing reports of findings or technical support work in a closely related field, e.g., biological laboratory technician work that required application of the methods and techniques for the position to be filled. OR Applicants must have successful completion of (a) an associate-degree course of study of which the 2nd year of the 2-year program included successful completion of a training course of approximately a year's duration in a certified laboratory assistant school approved by a nationally recognized accrediting agency; (b) 1 year of study that included 6 semester hours in chemistry and/or the biological sciences, plus successful completion of the training course as described in (a) above for GS-3; or (c) 2 years of study that included at least 12 semester hours of chemistry and/or biological science course work that must have been directly related to the specialization of the position to be filled. Minimum Requirement:
In addition to meeting the basic requirement for the vacancy, you must also meet the minimum requirement described below. Applicants must have at least 6 months of generalized experience that demonstrates your ability to perform venipuncture on both inpatients and outpatients utilizing age and gender specific skills to the young adult, the adult, and the geriatric patient. OR Applicants must have 6 months of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade (GS-03) in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to the reception of the patients, performing positive patient identification procedures, verifying test orders, and performing venipuncture on both inpatients and outpatients. You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position:

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note:
A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster.
