South Texas Veterans Health Care System (STVHCS) is comprised of seven primary care outpatient facilities:
North Central, Shavano Park, Balcones Heights, South Bexar, Audie Murphy, Frank Tejeda, Kerrville, and Victoria. STVHCS serves one of the largest primary service areas in the nation and is part of the VA Heart of Texas Veterans Integrated Service Network (VISN 17). We are seeking a Registered Nurse Float who will provide nursing support throughout the Primary Care Clinics. The Registered Nurse (RN) will consistently be able to fulfill the standards of Nursing Practice in accordance with established policies and procedures of the Department of Veterans Affairs and Nursing Service. Primary Care Float RN Duties:
The RN will perform a wide range of clinical and/or administrative duties and will utilize nursing skills when assessing and triaging unscheduled patients as walk-ins, over the phone or via secure messaging. Assures current, comprehensive, and timely documentation is contained in the patient's medical record and any other pertinent records. Uses the nursing process, evidence-based practice, and effective communication to collaborate with healthcare providers, family and/or caregiver as well as internal VHA and community based services. The RN must work collaboratively within an intradisciplinary team to assist in the care of complex populations. Performs a variety of tasks to include but not limited to:
Vital signs, EKGs, immunizations, injections, blood cultures, PICC line management, setting up and assisting with procedures, wound care and other tasks as required. Promotes patient self-management, prevention, and wellness; while incorporating critical thinking and customer service skills into all aspects of the role. The RN oversees the duties and performance of the LVNs. May function as charge nurse and preceptor; prepares schedule, makes/adjusts staffing assignments, etc. They will foster/support a learning environment by participation in the orientation of new employees, providing feedback as appropriate and seeking opportunities for self-improvement. Must be able to participate in all patient aligned care team activities, huddles, and training. The primary care clinics include North Central, Shavano Park, Balcones Heights, South Bexar, Audie Murphy, Kerrville, and Victoria. Work Schedule:

30 pm (Tour of Duty and location may change due to patient care needs to include weekends and extended hours). Tour location may vary depending on patient care needs and staffing requirements. The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. OR The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. Nurse I Level I - An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Nurse I Level II - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor's degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience; OR a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) with no additional nursing practice/experience. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
