The Social Worker position is assigned to the in-patient unit within forensic services.
The position is responsible for provision of casework services to patients and their families, plus knowledge of and a commitment to HHSC, Kerrville State Hospital, and Social Work Departmental Policies and Procedures.
Performs highly advanced social work casework.
Serves as a member of an interdisciplinary treatment team carrying a full time caseload and is responsible to work as a liaison with community MHAs for the implementation of effective discharge planning and continuity of care for patient population served.
As is required, the social worker provides therapeutic interventions such as individual and family counseling, patient and family educational groups and psychosocial rehabilitation.
This position provides an array of services to include but not limited to actively participating in inter-disciplinary treatment team meeting where patient diagnosis are formulated and individualized treatment plans are designed.
Essential is the ability to rapidly develop psychosocial history assessments, formulate treatment plans, provide social work casework services as well as continuity of care and discharge planning activities; and provide social work treatment modalities to ensure that all identified patient needs are met.
The Social Worker must adhere to the practice of clinical social work which requires the application of social work theory, knowledge, methods, ethics, and the professional use of self to restore or enhance social, psychosocial, or biopsychosocial functions to individuals, couples, families, and groups.
The practice of Master social work may include the practice of clinical social work under LCSW-S clinical supervision.
Essential Job Functions:
1.
Attends work on a regular basis and may be required to work a specific shift schedule or, at times, even a rotating schedule, extended shift and/or overtime in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned.
2.
Interviews clients, their families, law enforcement officials, schools, and health and social welfare institutions to obtain client background information.
3.
Identifies the psychosocial, economic, and physical needs of clients.
4.
Develops individual treatment plans; and assesses and reassesses clients' support systems and available community resources, schools, and facilities.
5.
Counsels clients and their families and coordinates placements of clients with community facilities and schools.
6.
Serves as liaison between clients and their families, state and judicial systems, and facility or treatment providers.
7.
Facilitates individual contact and group education sessions with patients.
8.
Fulfills clinical documentation requirements in order to accurately evaluate the client's progress in treatment and ongoing client and family educational needs.
9.
Participates in unit administration, program development, and evaluation.
10.
Participates in organizational workgroups.
11.
Provides discharge planning.
12.
May submit evaluations and reports concerning staff recommendations, social work coverage in the facility, in-service training needs, and social work program status.
13.
May assist with overseeing a social work program or treatment modality.
14.
May supervise the work of others.
15.
Performs related work as assigned.
16.
Other duties as assigned include but are not limited to actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agency's obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation.
Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location.
Knowledge Skills Abilities:
1.
Knowledge of mental illness and emotional components of physical illness; of rehabilitation methods; of casework principles; of community resources; and of the principles, methods, techniques, and practices of social work.
2.
Skill in interviewing.
3.
Ability to oversee a social work program, to evaluate reports of social studies, to evaluate social assessments and make treatment plans, to communicate effectively, and to supervise the work of others.
Registration or Licensure Requirements:
Licensure as a Master Social Worker by the Texas State Board of Social Worker Examiners OR Licensure as a Clinical Social Worker by the Texas State Board of Social Work Examiners Initial Selection Criteria:
1.
Experience in social services work.
2.
Graduated from an accredited four-year university with major coursework in behavioral sciences, social sciences, humanities.

Salary Note:
The salary offered will follow HHS starting salary guidelines which are typically made at or near the posted minimum of the salary range.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, healthcare workers are considered to be at significant risk for acquiring or transmitting hepatitis B, measles, mumps, rubella, varicella (chicken pox), tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis (whooping cough), and influenza.
All of these diseases are vaccine-preventable.
As a result, state hospital policy requires employees be vaccinated according to their level of contact with patients.
